Engraved broadside on vellum (19 1/2 x 15 1/2 in.; 494 x 394 mm), accomplished in a clerical hand, Washington, 1 July 1864, appointing Abner R. Benedict a Captain, countersigned by the Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton ("EM Stanton"), embossed blue paper seal, martial vignettes by J. V. N. and C. H. Throop at head and foot; very lightly faded, pinholes at folds, one to "a" in Stanton signature. With photographic portrait of Lincoln. Matted, framed, and glazed together; not examined out of frame.
