Lithographs from Righini's Panorama do Pará em Doze Vistas, depicting scenes in Belém and around the large north Brazilian state
Joseph Leon Righini was an Italian painter who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin. He went to Brazil sometime around 1856 and settled in Maranhão and Pará. He was the first European to document, from direct observation, the landscapes of Northern Brazil and the Amazon rainforest in the mid-19th century.
Panorama do Pará is relatively scarce, with no previous records at auction. It does not appear in WorldCat, nor in the primary Brazilian bibliographies.
