THE PIANO LESSON

signed J. Feurgard (lower left)

oil on canvas, unframed

canvas: 45½ by 31½ in.; 115.6 by 80 cm

Oil on lined canvas. The surface is in generally good condition, aside from faint isolated craquelure across the man's neck, jaw and shoulders and at upper right; and a few barely visible scattered pin dot accretions. The colors present well. Under UV light, the picture surface is obscured by an unevenly applied green-fluorescing varnish, which somewhat impedes a review of the surface, though broad, brushy fluorescence is visible throughout, with inpainting to address prior craquelure on the man's hair and horizontal lines of inpainting on the sheet of music; and some additional, sparse pin dot retouches in the upper half of composition are also visible.

Offered without a frame and ready to hang in its current state.
