LE PHOENIX

signed Henri Levy (lower left)

oil on canvas

canvas: 28 ⅞ by 17 ½ in.; 73.3 by 44.5 cm

framed: 32 by 20 ½ in.; 81.3 by 52.1 cm

Oil on lined canvas, not examined out of the frame. There is a 1/2 inch wide gold margin along all four edges of the canvas, partially visible in current framing. The surface is in generally good condition, aside from scattered craquelure and pigment separation; and a 1 inch vertical loss extending from the lower left edge, partially visible in current framing. The colors remain fresh. Under UV light, the picture surface is obscured by a heavily applied green-fluorescing varnish, though a few scattered dots and dashes of retouching in the lower half of the composition and a horizontal area of inpainting just above the signature are visible.

Framed in a simple gold wood frame and ready to hang in its current state.
