Lots 42-71: Thirty Watercolour Views of Berlin by Eduard Gaertner from a German Private Collection

Executed after 1832. According to Irmgard Wirth, these watercolour views of Berlin were originally kept in a leather bound booklet, and were subsequently used to produce similar sized coloured etchings entitled Memories of Berlin. Thirty-Six Coloured Etchings by Eduard Gaertner published by Gropius after 1832 and before 1840. These etchings were unsigned.  Based on this collection of etchings it appears that the original watercolours made by Gaertner for Gropius to produce this series included the following views: Das DioramaDas Monument auf dem KreuzbergDas MuseumDie neue Wilhelmstrasse, Das Akademiegebäude.
