The present marble is a beautiful showcase of Carrier-Belleuse's penchant for sensual female nudes. Her suggestive positioning of the drapery imbues the figure with a demure eroticism, while her garland of roses indicates an ethereal, perhaps allegorical setting. The woman's prominent braid of hair is reminiscent of one of the sculptor's most successful models, his Amazone Captive.
