Fisher's popular collection of sermons on the Seven Penitential Psalms was his first published work, first printed in 1508 at the behest of his patroness, Lady Margaret Beaufort, Queen Mary's great grandmother. This was the first printing since 1529, the year in which Fisher declared himself opposed to Henry VIII's desire to annul his marriage to Katherine of Aragon.
