A FINE STUDY for the 1881 portrait painted for the Linnaean Society (there is also a later copy by Collier, dated 1883, in the National Portrait Gallery). Collier (1850-1934) was the son-in-law of Thomas Henry Huxley, famously known as “Darwin’s bulldog”.
