[CAMPION, EDMUND]

A particular declaration or testimony, of the undutifull and traiterous affection borne against her Maiestie by Edmond Campion Jesuite, and other condemned priestes, witnessed by their owne confessions. London: Christopher Barker, 1582

A record of the interrogations of Catholics carried out in 1581, resulting from the Jesuit mission to reconvert England to Catholicism which was authorised by the Pope, Pius V, in the wake of his excommunication of Elizabeth in 1570. This was the first official justification of the trial and execution of Campion and others, later followed by a similar work of justification issued anonymously by Burghley (see lot 9).
