Since the 1950s, Alex Katz has been renowned for his cool, flattened depictions of figures, landscapes, and interiors. Vincent, depicting the artist’s son, represents a classic example of Katz’s series of Cut Outs, life-size iterations of his family and friends that underscore his career-long dedication to figurative realism and formal arrangement. Similar works reside in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.; Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; and The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
