Anonymous sale, Stockholm, Bukowskis, 7 June 2018, lot 480 (as Circle of Nicolas de Largillière).

Carel Wautier was a Flemish Baroque painter who settled in Brussels from around 1643 with his sister Michaelina, also a highly-regarded artist in her own right. This portrait, thought to be by a follower of Carel, depicts a gentleman of evident status. The sitter dons a fur-trimmed overcoat, in addition to an embroidered white cravat.
