JOSEPH MOUGIN | PITCHER
Property from the Private Collection of Lloyd and Barbara Macklowe
signed Mougin and incised J Mougin/131/Mougin Ceram
12⅜ in. (31.5 cm) high
Overall in very good condition. This piece is a superbly executed example of the work produced by Mougin at the turn of the century, combining highly figurative elements into utilitarian ceramic wares. The pitcher presents with rich colors and textures when handled in person and includes naturalistic depictions of two nudes in well-preserved condition. The glazing presents with very minor and occasional irregularities which are inherent to production as well as some light crackling to the inside of the glaze, consistent with age and not visually distracting. This piece has been inspected under blacklight and shows no apparent evidence of prior restoration.
