Property from an Important American Collection
lacquered wood, coquille d'œuf
27⅜ x 33⅛ x 17⅛ in. (69.5 x 84.1 x 43.5 cm)
Overall good condition. The eggshell top with some light surface soiling including a few minute stains and with a few small chips to the eggshell, consistent with age and use. A few of the chips appear to have been previously refilled. The eggshell pieces retain their original brightness and complex structure and present with rich and textural tones. The lacquered surface with very few scattered minute dents and some minute black stains, only visible upon close inspection. The corners of the table have recently been professionally and sensitively restored to stabilize the junctions between the top and the legs. The corners show some evidence of prior restorations with some areas displaying refinished lacquer. An area along one edge of the tabletop starting from one corner and measuring approximately 5 x1 inches with a crack with previous restoration and evidence of refinishing to the lacquer. This same corner presents with a chip to the lacquer. The opposite corner with a small dent. The bottom of the legs with extremely minute chips to the lacquer, consistent with age and use. A very elegant piece, characteristic of Dunand's lacquer work.
