Description
Works from the Collection of Marc Jacobs
GEORGES JOUVE
PAIR OF VASES
circa 1950s
glazed earthenware
each signed Jouve and with the artist's cypher
8½ in. (21.5 cm) high each
Overall in very good, original condition. The glazed surfaces present with very light craquelure as well as very minute pinholes throughout consistent with age and the natural evolution of the medium. The yellow glaze with minor variations in color as well as scattered and very minor darkening spots to the sides of both vases, which are partially visible on the catalogue photography and also consistent with age. The side of one vase with slightly more pronounced discoloration covering an area measuring approximately 4 inches along the edge and not visually distracting. The ceramic surfaces with very minor surface irregularities inherent to production and not visually distracting either. These works have been inspected under blacklight and show no apparent evidence of prior restoration to the ceramic body. A rare model with stunning presence by a master of mid-century French ceramics.
