Condition Report

Overall in good condition. This set of six "Captain" chairs displays rich and variegated wooden surfaces on a particularly interesting chair design by Nakashima. The wood presents with light surfaces scratches and minor accretions throughout consistent with gentle use, as well as occasional and minor surface irregularities inherent to production. The legs and feet with abrasions and occasional minor losses to the wood most prominent on the back feet, the largest measuring approximately 1 inch long and consistent with use. The backrest area of each chair presents with areas of sensitive restoration to the wood most visible on four chairs, with accompanying and occasional crackling to the wooden surface, some lifting to the wooden surface on one chair, and subtle variations in color. As a result the backrest and armrest areas present with some slight weakness and can be stabilized at the client’s discretion. The chairs appear to have been re-oiled at some point in their history and display a bright and rich finish. A rare opportunity to include a matching set of this design by the acclaimed woodworker.
