“One day [Keith Haring] called me wanting to visit and talk to me. He’d just purchased a new apartment and he asked me to help him renovate it and decorate it, because he wanted to spend the remaining time he had left surrounded by things that he cherished and loved. Art, objects, etc… Really what was important was that every piece meant something to him… They all had to be something that connected to him.

There was a pair of mother-of-pearl doors, Indian, and I was really surprised that he had them, but then I realized why: he used to come and visit us at The Dakota, and when I was decorating the apartment for John and Yoko, I used two pairs of those doors to their bedroom, and he liked them very much and he decided to have them in his own home as well.”
