Louis Held opened his first studio in Liegnitz in 1876. He moved to Berlin three years later and then to Weimar. He became a protégé of Franz Liszt and was appointed court photographer for Carl Alexander, Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, in 1888. From 1890 he toured Germany to illustrate magazines.
[Louis Held ouvre son premier atelier à Liegnitz en 1876. Il s'installe à Berlin trois ans plus tard, puis à Weimar. Il devint un protégé de Franz Liszt et fut nommé photographe de cour de Carl Alexander, grand-duc de Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, en 1888. À partir de 1890, il fit une tournée en Allemagne pour illustrer des magazines.]
