Compare a very similar 'Crucifixion' jar, in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, illustrated in Clare Le Corbeiller, China Trade Porcelain. Patterns of Exchange, New York, 1974, p. 17, where the author notes the relationship between the scrolling floral decoration found on this jar and Chinese export embroidered ecclesiastical textiles. For another pair of jars of this type, sold in Sotheby's Monaco, 13th February 1983, lot 263; compare also with a single jar with ormolu mounts, sold in Christie's New York, 28th January 2013, lot 407.
