G.M. for the Companie of Stationers, 1646. 12mo, red ruled margins, ELABORATE CONTEMPORARY EMBROIDERED BINDING in silver and coloured silk threads, the upper cover depicting Aaron with a censer and the lower cover depicting Moses with the Tablets of the Law, each within an oval wirework frame, decorated with flowers and strawberries, and the spine also with a lion and a leopard, edges gilt, silk ties, in a modern purple morocco box, some loose threads

William Valentine, Chaplain of the London Hospital 1818-42 and subsequently minister of St Thomas's, Stepney; gifted to "Mrs Joseph Somes", 1 April 1842 (inscription on front free endpaper), presumably Maria (1816-1911), second wife of Joseph Somes of Stepney, shipowner and MP; Ginsburg & Levy, Inc., antique dealers, 815 Madison Avenue, NY, c.1976
