A RARE PAIR OF GHIORDES LONG RUGS, WEST ANATOLIA

circa 1900

approximately 338 by 161cm and 346 by 155 cm. (2)

The rug in the primary image with the band of lighter green abrash through one of the carnation sprays is 346 by 155cm. This piece is overall in very good condition; pile generally 2-3mm in depth; ends with secured teased warp fringes. Side cords in good condition. Overall in very good condition. The pair (338 by 161cm) with the darker band of abrash between the two vase motifs, has pile generally 2-3mm but with some wear so that knot heads are beginning to appear in green field, particularly in the upper 3/4 of the field. Ends have teased warp fringes, now secured. Side cords partly restored and in good condition. Overall in good, rather than very good condition. The ground is an attractive light sage green, abrashed to dark pistachio; the bright whites are cotton. Very rare to find a pair like these..
