TYPED LETTERS SIGNED ("MAMIE DOUD EISENHOWER"; "DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER"), TO MR. AND MRS. PHILIP SANG
The first letter, signed by the First Lady, one page (8 5/8 x 6 in.; 218 x 150 mm) on gold-embossed White House letterhead, Denver, Colorado, 30 September 1955. The second, signed by the President, one page (8 1/2 x 6 1/2 in.; 215 x 165 mm) on blue-embossed White House letterhead, Washington, 22 October 1956. The two letters matted, glazed, and framed with photograph portraits of the First Lady (signed) and the President, the frame double-glazed with the original envelope to the President's letter on the reverse.
Both letters thank the Sangs for enrolling Ike in the Civil War Book Club—although the President "confess[es] that I have not found the time to read each of this year' selections. …"
