The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc., New York, an independent restoration studio who is not an employee of Sotheby's:

This painting is clean and the paint layer is stable. The tacking edges have been reinforced and the canvas is well-stretched on its original stretcher. There are thin lines of retouching visible under ultraviolet light that address some cracking directly below the sailboats, along the bottom edge, and throughout the sky. There is also a 2-inch vertical restoration in the figures in the lower right. There are also retouches along the bottom edge addressing frame abrasion.

The uppermost sails and a few parts of the boat fluoresce quite darkly under ultraviolet light, but these appear to be later changes made to the painting by the artist and not restorations. The painting is in good condition and should be hung as is.
