Description

All That Is Glorious Around Us: Property from an Important American Collector

WILLIAM TROST RICHARDS

1833 - 1905

THE ADIRONDACKS

signed Wm. T. Richards - (lower left)

oil on canvas

22 ¼ x 35 inches

(56.5 by 88.9 cm)

Painted circa 1857-58.

Condition Report

The canvas has been heavily lined with wax, tacked to period stretchers and the tacking edges trimmed. There appear to be frame abrasions along the extreme outer edges, which have been in painted accordingly, and traces of gold leaf along the extreme outer edges. Under UV: there appear to be a few minor, small spots of inpaint in the sky and landscape; and the work retains a heavy varnish layer. Upon close examination, it appears the work might be signed twice, one on top of the other.
