rectangular, each face panelled with inlaid lively chinoiserie subjects, including figures around a magical lantern, playing music or returning with harvest, the gold cagework mounts chased with flowers and scrollwork, gold lining and wavy rims, slightly raised thumbpiece, apparently unmarked,

8.1cm., 3 1/8 in. wide


A most interesting and rare box in good condition, bar some surface wear throughout, commensurate with time and age; the wood representig the bird cage on the base ever so slightly raised; one pin missing to the left side of the hinge
