Description

A LARGE GILT-BRONZE AND REPOUSSÉ FIGURE OF A DRAGON

TIBET, 17TH CENTURY

十七世紀 藏傳鎏金銅龍戲珠

108 cm, 42½ in.

This magnificent gilt repoussé dragon would probably have originally flanked an elaborate altar in a temple. Similar dragons in the Potala Palace, Lhasa, are illustrated in Ulrich von Schroeder, Buddhist Sculptures in Tibet, Hong Kong, 2001, vol. II, pl. 195D.
