Ansel Adams and Mary Austin

'Taos Pueblo'

(San Francisco: Grabhorn Press, 1930, an edition of 108), a book illustrated with 12 prints on Dassonville paper by Ansel Adams, with text by Mary Austin; Indian thunderbird motif by Valenti Angelo on title and repeated in margins, text in black with initials and ornaments in orange, the colophon signed by Mary Austin and Ansel E. Adams in ink and stamped edition '53.' Folio, blindstamped 1/4 morocco with raised bands on spine and linen sides; in the original matching slipcase

The photographs: various sizes to 9 by 6 1/2 in. (22.9 by 16.5 cm.) or the reverse

The photographs and printed contents are generally in excellent condition. In raking light, a few deposits of original retouching are visible on some of the photographs. There is very faint transference on the pages opposite of each image. The colophon is darkened along the edges and there is some soiling primarily in the upper half. There is faint, mottled discoloration in the right margin of North House, Kiva, and Thunder Clouds which does not appear to affect the image.

The raised bands of the spine and the corners are worn. The orange linen slipcase is somewhat faded.
