Gravel Bars, American River, California
mural-sized sepia-toned gelatin silver print, mounted to Homasote board, framed, 1950, printed circa 1955
image: 106 3/4 by 82 3/4 in. (271.1 by 210.2 cm.)
frame: 109 by 85 in. (276.9 by 215.9 cm.)
Although it has not been examined out of its frame, this mural-sized photograph appears to be in generally excellent condition. As is typical of these majestic works, the image was printed in three horizontal sections and mounted together to make the overall composition. Upon close inspection, 2 seams can be seen running the width of the print. Some of the edges of the seams are chipped or lifting slightly from the mount. There are scattered scratches, abrasions, and original and later retouching, none of which detract from the overall fine appearance of this print.
