Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand, the vase displays a superb contrast between the red, black and silver shades of lacquer adorning the body. The lacquer presents with some minor and expected signs of gentle handling and age consistent with the natural evolution of the medium. The shoulder with an extremely minor and shallow dimple to the surface which is not visible unless closely inspected. The brass rim presents with minute indentations to the edges, only visible upon close inspection, as well as two small areas of oxidation, the largest measuring approximately 1/8 inch. The underside of the piece presents with minor scuffing as well as two areas of very minor discoloration to the lacquer consistent with age and gentle handling. This piece has been inspected under blacklight and shows no apparent evidence of prior restoration. A vibrant and sophisticated work with charming scale and dynamic decoration.
