patinated Lap stone, gold leaf
incised L. LEYRITZ
85 5/8 x 21 x 12 1/4 in. (217.4 x 53.3 x 31.1 cm)
Overall in very good condition. The Lap stone presents with casting irregularities and defects which are inherent to production. The edges present with occasional and minor indentations and losses to the stone, not visually distracting and mostly concentrated to the base. Some of the areas of shallow losses to the stone present with some very minimal inpainting, not visually distracting. The stone presents with faint hairlines concentrated to the lower half of the figure, the largest measuring approximately 5 inches on the torso, which are likely the result of age and weight of the piece. Though they appear stable, the hairline cracks could benefit from inspection by a professional conservator at the client’s discretion. The flat panel partially supporting the male figure is adorned with gold leaf decorations which appear stable, some of which present with some darkening to the color. A stunning modernist work with impressive scale and visual presence.
