"Collarette" Vase

circa 1925

lacquered metal, with original copper liner

signed JEAN DUNAND in partially faded red lacquer

15 1/8 in. (38.6 cm) high

11 in. (27.9 cm) diameter

Overall in very good condition. A stunning piece with monumental proportions, the vase includes its original removable copper liner. The surfaces throughout are sensitively textured, imparting the vase with a satisfying tactile quality that enhances its visual presence. The lacquer presents with some minor and expected signs of gentle handling and age consistent with the natural evolution of the medium. The rich orange lacquer with color variations inherent to production, with hues ranging from light orange to russet brown. The rim with small losses to the lacquer consistent with use from the copper liner. The interior of the vase with oxidation and light soiling to the metal consistent with age. The underside of the vase with abrasions and losses to the black lacquer surface. The copper liner presents with oxidation throughout, as well as light soiling and verdigris marks concentrated to the interior and underside. The rim of the liner is lacquered in black which shows some light discoloration concentrated to the edges. The rim with very minor indentations and dimples to the metal, not visually distracting. The upper edges on the inside of the liner are also partially painted in black and present with minor losses to the paint.
