Overall in very good condition. This large-scale piece decorated with incredibly detailed and colorful lacquered motifs is a superb example of Jean Dunand’s intricate and artistic use of lacquer. The lacquer presents with some minor and expected signs of gentle handling and age consistent with the natural evolution of the medium. The lacquered surfaces with areas of occasional minor loss to the red and black lacquer decorations. One edge of the rim with an area of very minor loss to the red lacquer measuring approximately 1/8inch. The red and black lacquer around the upper rim of the piece have been relacquered by a professional conservator and present very well overall. Select small areas of the geometric motifs adorning the body appear to have been professionally relacquered as well, and are not visible unless inspected under blacklight. Two sides of the cache-pot with very minor and shallow dimples to the metal, not visible unless closely inspected. The i interior of the cache-pot with light oxidation throughout as well as verdigris marks. The underside of the piece presents with heavier surface scratches and surface residue, as well as five pieces of protective tape glued onto the metal and three protective felt pads.
