We would like to thank Martin Dieterle and Claire Lebeau for confirming the authenticity of this lot. It will be included in the next supplement to Alfred Robaut’s l’Oeuvre de Corot.

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:

This work has an old European lining. The surface is still well textured. The paint layer is clean. It shows no signs of abrasion. There is a horizontal break in the valley behind the figure, which shows some rather amateurish restorations. In the lower left corner above the signature, there is a 2-inch vertical break in the canvas that also shows visible restorations. There are otherwise no restorations. If the retouches in these two areas were re-examined, the work would be ready to hang.
