Overall the condition is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few small natural inclusions in the marble which have been filled with white fill, including at the man's proper left arm, his proper right shoulder, his lower back, and his proper right leg. There is a well-concealed area of restoration around the man's proper left knee.

Lucien Alliot studied under Louis-Ernest Barrias and Jules Félix Coutan. He became a regular exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Français, obtaining the gold medal in 1920. Alliot is best known for his figurative works which range from allegorical to religious in subject-matter. Le Baiser is among his most attractive compositions.
