A PAIR OF MINTONS PÂTE-SUR-PÂTE BROWN-GROUND VASES AND COVERS, 'THE HALF AND THE WHOLE' 1895-1899
shape 3257, decorated by Marc Louis Solon, one signed with an interlocking LSOLON emblem under a handle, the other L Solon to the reverse, each of slender shield shape, the shoulder affixed on either side with a gilt-enriched acanthus handle, the neck and foot with raised gilt stylized foliage, the body decorated in white slip with the figure of a cupid, one offering a heart, the other with a heart cut in half, the respective reverse of each with a heart issuing a flame or a knife cutting a heart, crowned globe Mintons marks in gold, impressed MINTONS marks, indistinct date code of a swan, gilded V, various ciphers.
