A FRENCH PÂTE-SUR-PÂTE BLUE-GROUND RECTANGULAR PLAQUE CIRCA 1865
decorated by Marc Louis Solon, signed MILES, incised, decorated in white slip with a maiden in a diaphanous costume, emblematic of Hope, standing on a pedestal and leaning against an anchor, reserved on a ground enriched with dark-blue scroll ornament entwined with green foliage edged in gilding, framed.
Plaque 11⅛ x 6⅝ in.
28.3 x 16.8 cm
There appears to have been considerable bubbling to the glaze in firing. This has been polished in some areas and filled in others giving a rough and mottled appearance to some areas of the background, some leaves and some sections of the strapwork. The pate sur pate figure is not affected by this. Additional close up images can be made available on request.
Please note the frame has losses to the gilding and some splits.
