The famous jewellery and watch merchant Charles Lewis Tiffany first started selling timepieces in 1847 and quickly established a notable reputation for himself. Tiffany introduced several horological advancements to the American market and became a reputable name in terms of precision timekeeping. Thirty years onwards, in 1874 the company’s horological department became so successful that they opened a factory in Geneva to produce their own watches.
The present lot is emblematic of the high-grade level of precision timepieces Tiffany produced in their Geneva factory. This rare example of a split-second chronograph is made even more interesting as it was fitted with a regulator dial, placing additional emphasis on the chronograph function as opposed to the traditional time display. Additionally, this watch also includes a minute repeating complication, making it an even more desirable collector’s piece.
