The Rolex Submariner 16618 was manufactured between 1988 and 2008 as an opulent variant of the World’s most popular divers’ watch. Despite its full yellow gold configuration, the model was tightly based on its stainless-steel counterpart, the reference 16610, using the same newly introduced calibre 3135 featuring a convenient hacking seconds function and quick date setting.

The present example was manufactured in 1999 and is fitted with the newly introduced Luminova dial, superseding the Tritium examples and now displaying a “SWISS” signature at 6 o’clock. The Swiss Only dial was produced for an exceedingly short amount of time, adding to the collectability of this example.

The colour combination on this reference is undoubtedly striking, associating the deep oceanic blue dial with the warmth of the yellow gold case and original bracelet, stamped 92908A. The reference 16618 was furthermore the last generation of gold Submariner models to feature the traditional case, with thinner and drilled lugs in addition to the nostalgic aluminum bezel insert.

The successor, reference 116618, displays the maxi-case design with a ceramic bezel insert in addition to a non-metallic homogeneous blue dial.

This example is offered with a rather compelling set of accessories, making this lot an enticing opportunity to add a testament of Rolex’s quest for luxury to any collection.
