Among many horological achievements through its rich history, IWC have beautifully mastered the difficult art of blending utilitarian research with quest of elegance. First introduced in the early 1940’s, the IWC pilot watches are today part of the very DNA of the Manufacture. As opposed to these first time only pieces, the Swiss-German manufacture is offering this year a Pilot’s Watch showcasing both a perpetual calendar and a chronograph complication. The Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Edition “Le Petit Prince”, available exclusively in red gold, will be produced as a limited edition of 250 pieces only.
In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Antoine de Saint Exupéry Youth Foundation, IWC is offering for auction the watch number 10 from the newly released limited edition with Sotheby’s.
The present lot, reference IW392202, boasts the distinctive signature Petit Prince midnight blue dial with an unique detail to commemorate the Foundation’s anniversary: the luminescent index at 10 o’clock has been coloured in beige, echoing the warm tone of the brushed 5N red gold case. The large and robust manufacture calibre 89630 follows the Kurt Klaus tradition and, while making great use of the 43mm case, allows for an uncluttered display of the day, date, month, phases of the moon and chronograph timing information. The technical ingenuity of this caliber allows the user to reset the perpetual calendar with the crown, further-enhancing the purpose-oriented ambition of the Pilot’s Watch. The watch is paired with a cream-stitched leather strap, reminiscent of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s flying outfit.
This most attractive wristwatch is accompanied by a copy of “The Little Prince – Tactile Art Book, Claude Garrandes edition”, signed by François d’Agay, President of the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation and Dr Claude Garrandes.
IWC will donate its proceeds to the Foundation, making this a rare opportunity to both own a superb timepiece and support a wonderful charitable cause helping the young generation to face the future.
