This vibrant picture was almost certainly painted in August 1907 during a vacation spent with John Singer Sargent at Portud in the Val d’Aosta. It was during this trip that de Glehn painted a study of his wife, Jane Emmet de Glehn by a Stream, Val d’Aosta (Christie’s, London, 15 December 2011, lot 35).
