This sofa's design relates directly to sofas that have been recently ascribed to the work of master cabinetmakers John and Thomas Seymour (see Robert D. Mussey Jr., The Furniture Masterworks of John & Thomas Seymour, (Salem, MA: Peabody Essex Museum, 2003), pp. 398-405). A nearly identical sofa, also attributed to John and Thomas Seymour, is in the collection of the Rhode Island School of Design, acc. no. 1987.016.
