Large folio (502 x 355mm.), atlas volume only, list of plates, 22 numbered engraved plates (5 hand-coloured), 9 further un-numbered plates, 3 maps (2 hand-coloured in outline, one folding), contemporary half calf, marbled boards, occasional spotting, very slightly rubbed


Prince Maximilian was accompanied by the naturalists George Freyreiss and Friedrich Sellow. From Rio they travelled to Cabo Frio, along the coast of Ilheus, thence up the Jequitinhonha to Minas Geraes, finally reaching Bahia.
