Description
KAZEM-BEG, MIRZA ALEXANDER
Derbend-Nameh, or the history of Derbend; translated from a select Turkish version. St. Petersburg: printed for the Imperial Academy of Sciences, 1851
FIRST EDITION, 4to (310 x 225mm.), Azeri Turkish text with English translation and commentary, modern blue half calf, original printed green wrappers (worn) bound in at end, some staining or light browning
A rare translation of this chronicle which includes accounts of the Arab wars and attempts to subdue the Caucasus. The location of Derbent on the Caspian Sea and its proximity to Persia and Ottoman Turkey, meant its allegiance changed from one imperial power to another, Russian, Ottoman and Persian alike.
