Large folio (630 x 557mm.), 2 parts (only) bound in one volume, comprising: part 1, "Stamboul", leaf with title and index, key sheet and 19 plans; part 2, "Pera & Galata", key sheet and 18 plans, 2pp. index, all hand-coloured lithographed maps, most maps with overslips, all with numerical leather tags, text and maps printed recto and verso, contemporary grey cloth, "Constantinople Vols I & II" blindstamped to upper cover, without part three "Kadi-Keui", minor spotting or staining, lacking rear endpaper, slightly worn


VERY RARE FIRE INSURANCE PLANS OF CONSTANTINOPLE. Charles Edward Goad (1848–1910) was a distinguished cartographer and engineer. He became renowned for his surveys, done in order to determine appropriate insurance premiums. Therefore, the maps by Goad are extremely detailed including accurate measurement of streets, determining building materials and locating fire services and water supplies. The Charles E. Goad company was established in 1875 and continued to be in business until 1917.
