[BORY DE SAINT-VINCENT, JEAN-BAPTISTE]

A collection of watercolours and drawings to illustrate Expédition scientifique de Morée. Section des sciences physiques, 1832-1836

Album containing calligraphic coloured manuscript title "Expedition de Moree par Bory de St. Vincent. Dessins originale" and 73 FINE WATERCOLOUR, PEN AND INK, AND PENCIL DRAWINGS OF NATURAL HISTORY SUBJECTS (minerals, reptiles, insects, fish and botany), all captioned and almost all with plate numbers, many signed by the artists (P. Oudart, J.G. Pretre, Meurnier, and E. Delile), each on thick card (43 x 26cm.), mounted on stubs in an album, modern red half cloth

These drawings are reproduced in the atlas to Bory de Saint-Vincent's Expédition scientifique de Morée. Section des sciences physiques (see lot 162), as géologie plates 8 and 9; zoologie plates 6, [8]-17, 27-44, 46, 48 and 51-53; botanique plates 1-36 plus 12 bis. Although the plates are faithful to the original drawings, there are occasional differences. Those drawings that are not signed are mostly the work of E. Guérin.

PROVENANCE:
