Occasionally casks of "Orkney Single Malt" are sold on the secondary market with little indication which Orcadian distillery is responsible for its distillate. It is very rare to see a Highland Park cask that proudly bears the distillery name.

Appearance: Deep Amber

This is a vibrant whisky! A whisper of smoke is enveloped by ripe, dark berries, caramel, dried apricot and figs. Roses orange cream, candied ginger and something richly sweet yet savoury, perhaps roast venison with blackcurrant jus and paired with wine. Oaked Red wine... Mulled wine... Ginger wine! And then something more rugged raises its head. Industrial metals and whispers of peat, intertwined with cumin and Christmas Spice. Amazingly complex.

In the mouth lightly peated cereals and dried fruits dominate initially, but this is one to savour and contemplate on. As the whisky goes down, the long finish provides stewed raisins, burned rhubarb crumble, cigar box and linseed oil all finished with lingering smoke. A perfect winter dram.
