STUDY FOR "PHENOMENA"
Signed P Tchelitchew and dated 37 (lower right)
Pen and ink and ink wash on paper
11⅛ by 8⅞ in. (28.3 by 22.5 cm)
Framed: 18¼ by 15¾ in. (46.4 by 40 cm)
Executed in 1937.
Executed on very thin cream wove paper. The sheet is hinged with mounting corners at all four edges. The right and bottom edges are lightly deckled. There are flattened creases across the upper-left, upper-right and lower-left corners. There are additional handling creases along the upper register and toward the right corner. In addition, there is an additional crease measuring approximately five inches across the bottom right corner. There are a few very minor nicks to the left and right edges. There is a single 1/4 inch tear along the right edge. There are holes to the proper left knee of the central figure, to the figure's proper left arm, and to the chin of the figure at lower left, inherent to the artist's process. The work is in good condition.
