TANGO

Etching, 1953, on wove paper, handwritten letter in colored pencil by the artist on the verso

Plate: 3¼ by 2⅜ in. (8.3 by 6.1 cm)

Framed: 14 by 11½ in. (35.8 by 29.3 cm)

The letter reads in full:

"Dearest

This brings loving thoughts from me and Katherina (?) I'm painting very simple and direct pictures - this one has been part on a rather big canvas - all sorts of blues (so I call it Blue Waltz). quite tender and free and I think you'd like it. (In the painting, girl is clothed)

Winter here has been sheer hell. We say "never again". Otherwise Paris is fun and we can soon have spring. I do wish you'd come this year. We could all go to Venice together, where Max has a room at the Biennale,
