Arabic and Persian on paper, 256 leaves plus 3 fly-leaves, 18 lines to the page, written in naskh in black ink, ruled in black and gold, some pages with the Persian translation in red nasta’liq, titles in gold riqa’ outlined in black within a cartouche, in lacquer binding decorated with flowers

Muhammad Baqir ibn Muhammad Taqi Majlisi was born in 1627 and was Shaykh al-Islam during the reign of Shah Sulayman Safavi (r.1666-94). The Zad al-ma’ad is a book of prayers and pious observances for ordinary and special days throughout the year.
