AN ILLUMINATED COLLECTION OF PRAYERS AND SURAHS, COPIED BY HUSAIN AL-RUSHDI, AL-KASTAMONI, TURKEY, OTTOMAN, DATED 1260 AH/1844-45 AD


Arabic manuscript on cream paper, 148 leaves plus 5 fly-leaves, 11 lines to the page, written in naskh in black ink, ruled in gold and black, verses separated by polychrome and gold dotted roundels, titles and surah headings in white cursive against a gold ground, f.1b with a polychrome and gold rococo heading (‘unwan), numerous hilyehs of the Prophet and his companions, in a brown gilt and stamped leather binding
