FIRST EDITION (issue with "T.D.", i.e. Thomas Digges, at end), small 4to (173 x 114mm.), black letter, title within typographic border, without initial blank leaf, modern vellum, gilt edges, headline slightly cropped in places
This description of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester's campaigns in 1585 and 1586, includes an account of the death of the poet Sir Philip Sidney at the battle of Zutphen (D1). Digges was keen to defend his own reputation and that of Leicester; Digges had attempted to reform abuses in army pay during the Low Countries campaign which made him very unpopular.
